Sr Clarissa Kinzel OP

Sister Clarissa Kinzel, 104, died Nov. 13 in the Dominican Sisters’ convent infirmary, Great Bend. She was born April 5, 1901, at Odin, as Sophia Kinzel. Sister Clarissa was the daughter of Stephen and Osita Beran Kinzel. She entered the Dominican Sisters’ Community on Sept. 1, 1922, and pronounced her first vows on Aug. 17, 1925. She celebrated 80 years of religious profession in 2005. Sister Clarissa completed 64 years of ministry in 1990. For years she worked in our sisters’ missions as a domestic worker and did office work in St. Rose Hospital and at the motherhouse. In 1946, she began a second ministry in health care, caring for patients, the hospital chapels, working in the admissions department, and lastly as hostess at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend from 1970 to 1990.

Sister Clarissa’s body will be brought to the hospitality area of the Dominican Chapel of the Plains, 3600 Broadway, Great Bend, where it will lie in state until the Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16. A wake service will be held at 7 p.m.. Tuesday, Nov. 15., at the Chapel. Burial will be at the Sisters’ Resurrection Cemetery. Memorials in honor of Sister Clarissa may be sent to Dominican Sisters Ministry Fund, Office of Mission and Ministry, 3600 Broadway, Great Bend, KS 67530.
