March 6, 1921 - January 19, 2006 Sister Amadea Hauser, 84, died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006, in the Dominican Sisters of Great Bend convent infirmary. She was born March 6, 1921, at St. Leo, Kan., and baptized Bertha Anna Hauser. Sister Amadea was the daughter of the late Edward and Mary Schnittker Hauser. She entered the Dominican Sisters’ Community Aug. 29, 1935, and pronounced her first vows Aug. 17, 1938. She celebrated 65 years of religious profession in 2003. Sister Amadea began her ministerial life as a teacher in elementary parochial schools of Kansas, a ministry which she accomplished for seven years. Following her studies for medical technology, she served as a medical technologist for over 30 years, often supervising X-ray and Emergency Rooms in all four of the Dominican Sisters’ hospitals: St. Joseph Memorial in Larned, Kan., St. Catherine in Garden City, Kan., Sacred Heart in Lamar, Colo., and Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. Sister Amadea’s last ministry was as a receptionist at the motherhouse. She retired in 2000. Sister Amadea is survived by two brothers, Joseph Hauser of Odenton, Md., and Eugene Hauser of Nashville, Kan.; and three sisters, Eva Hauser of Lamar, Colo., Angela Scantlin of Wichita, Kan., and Sister Edith Marie of Great Bend. Sister Amadea’s body will lie in state at the hospitality area of the Dominican Chapel of the Plains, 3600 Broadway, Great Bend, until the Liturgy of Christian Burial at 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23, with the Rev. Gerald Hammeke presiding. A wake service will be held at 7 tonight. Both the wake and the funeral service will be held at the convent, 3600 Broadway. Burial will be in the Sisters’ Resurrection Cemetery.
