MEMORIAL SERVICE OF ELDA GLYNN September 12, 2004 CLOSING PRAYER
All living and all loving God, we praise and thank you for this time to reflect on Elda's life and the ways she has manifested your presence to us. Through her, you have reminded us that there is a time to be born, as we saw her recover from her stroke; that there is a time to build, as we saw her courageously persevere in her various therapies following her stroke; that there is a time to dance, as we rejoiced when she began to walk again; that there is a time to embrace, as she shared her gift of hospitality with us; that there is a time to seek, as we saw her continue to search for a deeper relationship with You; that there is a time to sew, as she creatively stitched so many items for our mission bazaar; that there is a time to speak, as we saw her gain her ability to speak again; that there is a time to love, as we saw her volunteering for ElderCare, RSVP, and with the CKMC volunteers; that there is a time for peace, as we saw her renew relationships with her family and friends, and that there is a time to die, as we saw Elda suddenly taken home to You. Your work, Creator God, had been accomplished in her. Now in Christ, she is a new creation: everything old has passed away; See, everything has become new! Loving and forgiving God, through the suffering, death, and resurrection of your Son, Jesus, You have reconciled all of us to You. Through the new life you have given Elda, you call us to be ambassadors of reconciliation-bringing healing and forgiveness to all of our relationships, and inviting all whose lives we touch, to be reconciled with God. Compassionate and merciful God, be with Elda's family and friends who are grieving her death. Heal their pain and dispel the darkness and doubt that come from grief. As we prepare to go our separate ways, may we all take comfort in the hope that one day we shall see Elda again and enjoy her friendship, for we believe that the mercy of God will gather us together again, in the joy of His kingdom. We ask all of this in Jesus' name. Amen. |
