Hope for the Village Child (NGO) works with the rural dwellers in villages in an area south of Kaduna off Kachia Road. AIM: To provide a better quality of life for people living in rural areas, especially women and children, by alleviating suffering. OBJECTIVES: ¨ To improve health care, through roving clinics, immunization, health education and antenatal care. ¨ To alleviate suffering and poverty by promoting capacity building exercises and income generation projects. ¨ To improve education by building better schools and assisting teachers to produce a higher standard of work for both adults and children. ¨ To provide clean drinking water. ¨ To work towards self sustainability through self-reliance, community empowerment and mobilization. ¨ To promote healthy relationships in communities through unqualified service to all.
Since its founding in 1996, Hope for the Village Child has endeavored to fulfill these aims in the following ways: 1. Education ¨ Building Classrooms ¨ Provision of educational material ¨ Training of teachers ¨ Literacy classes
2. Health Care ¨ Training of village health workers and traditional birth attendants ¨ Weekly roving clinics for mother-child health ¨ Immunization ¨ Assisting in provision of wells for potable water supply ¨ Corrective surgery for children with rickets ¨ Weekly antenatal clinic ¨ Health education
3. Women’s Development ¨ Training in soap and pomade making ¨ Training in knitting ¨ Training in sewing
These activities are on-going. As an organization, we operate on the principle that all people have a right to share in the goods of the earth as well as a duty to be mindful of those less fortunate.
