December 3, 2007—The Dominican Sisters of Great Bend, Kansas announced the election of Sr Rene Weeks as Prioress during their Extraordinary Chapter of Election, November 23-24, 2007. Her term will extend until the formation of the new leadership team of the Union of the Cluster congregations. The election was held to fill the unexpected vacancy created by the untimely death of Lorena Bolte OP who died in July 2007 in a car accident. During the discernment process the Congregation came to agreement that for the next year and a half, these four team members are not only adequate for congregational leadership, but were unanimously affirmed when they offered their leadership to the Congregation. Sr Diane Traffas will serve as Assistant Prioress, and Sr Amy McFrederick and Sr Betty Werner continue as Councilors.
