Sr Salesia Schneweis OP

Sister Salesia Schneweis, 98, died Wednesday, August 6, 2008, in the Dominican Sisters’ convent infirmary, Great Bend.

Born October 18, 1909, in Odin, KS, as Margaret Victoria Schneweis, Sister Salesia was the daughter of the late Joseph and Frances Schremmer Schneweis. She entered the Dominican Sisters’ Community August 3, 1925, and pronounced her first vows August 16, 1928. She celebrated eighty years of religious profession this year, 2008.

Sister Salesia ministered as a nurse during most of her religious life. She worked at St Rose Hospital (now Central Kansas Medical Center [CKMC], Great Bend), St. Catherine Hospital (Garden City), and Sacred Heart Hospital (Lamar CO). At the convent she served as infirmarian, and at CKMC as hostess for almost twenty years. She retired at the motherhouse in 1991.

Sister Salesia’s body will be brought to the hospitality area of the Dominican Chapel of the Plains, 3600 Broadway, Great Bend, on Thursday, August 7, 2008, at 3:30 p.m., where it will lie in state until the Liturgy of Christian Burial at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, August 9, 2008, followed by burial in the Sisters’ Resurrection Cemetery. A Scriptural wake service will be held Friday, August 8, 2008, at 5:00 p.m. Both the wake and the funeral will be held at the convent (see chapel address above).
